Another recommendation is the 8x8 rule. This one says to drink 8 servings of 8 oz/day. You might have seen the recommendation for women to drink 11.5 cups and men to drink 15.5 cups.
If you want to get more specific, you could use a water intake calculator. There are many online if you search for them. A heavier person should drink more water than a lighter person.
Four tips for drinking more water.
Drink 2 cups of water when you wake up and 2 cups of water when you go to bed.
Note: if you have issues with needing to go to the bathroom at night, drinking two cups before bed may not be the option for you. If that is the case, you’ll probably want to start limiting your water consumption 2-3 hours before going to bed.
Drink 2 cups of water before each meal.
Use a container that has a measurement on the side.
Consider bubbled water or infused water.
Liquids other than pure water content
Options like bubbled water and infused water as just mentioned count do count for drinking water. There are other liquids such as soda and juices that do have water, but it’s generally recommended to avoid these options due to the high sugar content. That’s right, even though juices can be packed with vitamins, there is a lot of sugar in the juice that is detrimental to your health if you drink it regularly. However, in moderation, it is okay to drink juice. Remember that if you’re choosing to drink a liquid like coffee or tea, it can make you go to the bathroom more which in turn, could result in decreased hydration.
