What are your methods of treatment?
We are a manual therapy and exercise-based clinic. Studies have demonstrated that when manual therapy and exercise are performed together, for most conditions, there are better outcomes than if they are used individually. Manual techniques include passive range of motion, joint mobilization, high velocity low amplitude thrust techniques (HVLAT), soft tissue mobilization, strain-counterstrain, and muscle energy techniques. Exercises vary according to condition. Sometimes, taping, bracing or assistive devices may be used to aide the healing process.
Modalities?
Modalities include hot/cold packs, electrical stimulation/TENs, ultrasound, electrical acupuncture, and cold laser treatment. Although these methods of treatment are available to you, they are limited to acute conditions and for swelling/pain management. We do not use these methods frequently secondary to limited evidence supporting their use, but when we do, we use them in conjunction with manual techniques and/or a home exercise program. The decision to treat using this method is based on scientific evidence and experience in the clinic that supports taking an active role in your recovery to enable the proper healing process. If you have any questions or concerns, please address this with your physical therapist.
